Ohio
1. Obtain an application for the inspection at any Deputy Registrar Location.
2. Contact Ohio BMV and schedule an inspection with the Ohio State Highway patrol. They will issue you a document that serves as your registration and license to drive the car to the inspection. You may also trailer it if you choose.
3. On the day of your inspection be sure to bring these items.
a. Titles, receipts, and documentation of the source for the replaced major component parts, which includes the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of the source vehicle. If receipts are from a casual sale from an individual, they must be notarized. Photocopies of receipts are not acceptable.
b. The inspecting officer may require receipts or documentation for any part of questionable origin (ORC, Section 4505.11).
c. When "kits" are used, the manufacturer's certificate of origin must be presented.
d. The inspection receipt.
5. Procedures:
a. The vehicle must be completely rebuilt and ready for highway operation.
b. Before either a salvage or self-assembled inspection is conducted, all receipts and documents will be examined. The inspection will not be completed if any are incomplete, incorrect, or missing.
c. The person presenting the vehicle for inspection will be permitted in the inspection area only when authorized by the inspecting officer.
d. The applicant may be instructed to remove certain body parts from the vehicle before arriving for inspection. During the inspection, it may be necessary to remove certain parts to allow examination of VIN's. It may also be necessary to leave the vehicle overnight.
e. Any vehicle or component part bearing a VIN or VIN derivative determined to be stolen/missing or altered will result in the vehicle being impounded and held as evidence and/or seized for forfeiture.
4. If you pass the inspection they will give you a blue title that can be used at the registrar to get your yellow title. At this point you may have to pay state tax on your kit if you purchased it from out of state. There is also a small fee for registering your self built vehicle.
5. Now that you have your yellow title you can purchase your license plates. If you want vanity plates you may want to research ahead of time for availablity. You can do that at www.oplates.com .
6. Attach your new plates to your Cobra and you are ready to come to the London Cobra Show in June.
